International Conference on Artistic Community Work

We invite you to an international conference on the topic of artistic community projects. Guests from six countries will share their experiences of working with community, we will present a sociological study that monitored work with refugees in Iceland, and share all the insights we have gained over two years, in three cities and with three very different target groups.

PANEL GUESTS
Michele Steinwald (CA/USA) is a dancer, choreographer, independent curator, dance producer, community project initiator and occasional writer. Her portfolio of artistic, curatorial and institutional work is long and impressive. She has had an eclectic artistic career, working in Canada, Tokyo, the United States and Europe, and in recent years has directed performing arts projects and professional development programs for On the Boards (Seattle), New England Foundation for the Arts/National Dance Project (Boston) , DanceUSA (DC) and Deborah Hay Dance Company (Austin).
In the project Be Part! Michèle Steinwald as artistic director she led the Prague part in May 2023 Be Part of the River's Course, in which artists worked with people suffering from mental illness.
Stefano Mazzotta (IT) is a dancer, choreographer and leader of the movement theater troupe Zerogrammi, which has been active on the international scene since 2001. During its existence, the troupe has created more than 30 titles in cooperation with festivals and theaters in Italy, as well as in Russia, Portugal, Holland, Spain or Germany. The ensemble creates its performances through compositional work with dramatic and choreographic research, social and educational projects, within residences conceptually built on the basis of specific anthropological and geographical interests.
In the project Be Part! Stefano Mazzotta, from the position of artistic director, led the Icelandic part in February 2023 Be Part of Elegía delle cose perdute, in which artists worked with refugees and asylum seekers from more than ten countries around the world.
Olivera Tesnohlídková (RS/CZ) is a doctoral candidate in sociology at the Masaryk University in Brno, where she studied cultural sociology. Her research projects incorporate many types of socially engaged performance, including the connection of performance art with issues of migration. He has considerable experience with qualitative research, especially in international communities.
In the project Be Part! carried out sociological research that followed the progress of work with refugees and asylum seekers in Iceland as part of the projectBe Part of Elegía delle cose perdute. At the conference, Olivera Tésnohlídková will present the results of the research.
